Fishing in Iraq

by Kelly from the Path on January 3, 2011

This tidbit from our Guest Blogger, MAJ Dave:

“I caught 11 fish New Years Day. I had caught 10 but stayed a little longer so I could catch 11 for 2011. Good start to the new year. I learned they like a Mepps #2 spinner. The fish I’m catching are called Asp (Aspius vorax). They come from Europe and are actually an endangered species. They are rare in Europe now, but they are found in abundance in the lakes and canals here at Camp Victory Base Complex near the Baghdad International Airport. It is believed that the Asp is not native to this region but was imported to improve sport fishing opportunities for Saddam’s Bath party.”
